Victory in Cambodia
Apostolic leader Joel Reimer first came to VBCI Thailand as an 18-year-old missionary. When plans for a basketball ministry fell through Dr. Al Purvis encouraged Joel to enroll in bible college. Four years later, Joel emerged with a Bachelor of Ministry degree, a couple of house churches he had planted on the border of Cambodia, and a passion to make a lasting difference in this broken nation.
Joel has been in Cambodia as a full time missionary for the past five years and has seen tremendous growth and favor on the ministry. Joel's vision is to train up national leaders all over the country, who will operate with a heart of integrity and passion for the lost.
In Cambodia to date, Victory has:
* 6 home groups, which have recently come together under one roof as they have bought a new building to house the church and various ministries
* discipleship program
* HIV patient outreach, evangelism occurring weekly
* music school
* 3 English classes
Religion
In the three years prior to the Khmer Rouge takeover in 1975, Cambodia experienced an explosive revival where tens of thousands of people came to the saving knowledge of Christ.
As the Khmer Rouge terror campaign isolated Cambodia from the outside world, all foreign missionaries were expelled. The 5 years of genocide that followed wiped out 90% of the newly established church.
Today, hope is beginning to stir again in Cambodia, as Victory and other organizations reach out to broken Cambodia with the gospel message.
Official stats are as follows: Theravada Buddhist 95%, other 5%
